New-look Greytown take shape

Greytown Holmes Construction will have a new look this season, with a handful of players returning from 2020.

Kate Jurlina, Kim Bingham, and Zoe Bartlett are joined by the experienced Paige Drummond and Emma Harvey, who have transferred from other clubs.

Kuranui College’s Kitty Regnault and college leaver Isla Alexander add youthful flair, while Wairarapa newbie Quiana Modik and Wairarapa returnee Jess Robinson add extra depth.

2020 captain Carla Didsbury is the big loss, having ruptured her Achilles tendon in the final game of last season.

Coach Rose Broughton said the club had recruited well. There was experience and strength throughout the court. However, the team might need a few games to settle.

“There is a lot of talent in our team, and I am excited to see how far the girls can push themselves, but ultimately, we want to have fun and enjoy the season, without injury,” she added.

Greytown are scheduled to play St Matthew’s at 10am today.

St Matthew’s had challenged their inclusion in the Premier One Championship.

However, Netball Wairarapa competition coordinator Ashleigh Mills confirmed that St Matthew’s would play in the top division for now.

St Matthews’ sports coordinator Rachel Shearing said the school challenged their inclusion in the top divisions after the two grading rounds in May.

The college side lost by one goal each to premier one sides Greytown and Carterton Maroon and were beaten 10-17 by premier two side Carterton Black.

Their only win came over Greytown Property Brokers [269], a premier three side.
