Residents feel shaking

A magnitude 5.9 earthquake struck about 30km southwest of Taumarunui at 10.58am yesterday. Residents from Eketahuna to Wellington said they felt the quake.

Eketahuna resident Larrisa Barclay said the quake had rocked her house bus.

“[It was] big enough to know it wasn’t the cows or dogs making the bus move,” Barclay said. According to Geonet, the earthquake was at a depth of 210km.

Most people reported light or weak shaking, with some reporting moderate shaking.
